Spring Has Sprung at Harmony House!
Did you know that there are dozens of different varieties of snowdrops?
Or were you, like me, perfectly ignorant in your assumption that a snowdrop was a snowdrop? Would you be at all surprised, as I was, that they sell for up to £175 per bulb…yes, you read it right…per bulb! Indeed, there was a very rare bulb that sold for £1850!
I do love these little hardy guys. To me they are a sign that winter is on its way out and spring is just around the corner! I think there are times in the seasons of life where we need to have little signs that the tough times are coming to an end and the brighter season is on the horizon, aren’t there? They can often be harder to spot than a snowdrop though!
As winter comes to a close, and spring is in the air, it’s a time when we start to look for a little getaway or weekend break, something to look forward to and to brighten our days.

The renowned Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens is just around the corner and they opened their gates to Season Ticket Holders for a snowdrop walk recently. I saw plenty varieties there. Snowdrops come with amazing fantastical names like Wendy’s Gold, Richard Ayes, Robin Hood, Madeline and even Grumpy and Octopussy. There were a few ‘What?’s in Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens. I thought it an exceedingly strange name, but they were the ones they’d moved and were waiting to identify! Springtime is a beautiful time to visit here.
